SSM web-based training
Welcome to the IMPACT SSM Web Based Training for Teachers!
Welcome to the Student Services Management (SSM) Web-Based Training Module—a component of the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) Instructional Management Program and Academic Communication Tool (IMPACT).
Getting started
- Estimated training time is 90 minutes
- The course ends with an Exam
- The course is designed to take you through six modules
- If this is your first time viewing the training, it is recommended that you view each module in order.

System requirements for web-based training
- Step 1 - Flash Player
To open and view the IMPACT WBT modules, you must have the latest version of Flash Player installed on your computer system.
Download Macromedia Flash Player now.
- Step 2 - Adobe Acrobat Reader
To open and view the IMPACT Self-Paced Training documents, you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer system.
Download Adobe Acrobat Reader now.
- Step 3 - Sound / Speakers
The use of speakers is optional. Most of the IMPACT WBT modules have an audio component. Make sure your computer speakers are connected and working properly.
- Step 4 - Pop-Up Blocker
Each WBT module will launch in its own seperate browser window. You will need to make sure that your Pop-Up Blocker is set to Off.

To begin, choose the desired module:
- Navigate in SSM
Description: In this module, you will learn how to navigate within SSM using various toolbars.
- Communicating in SSM
Description: In this module, you will learn how to use the SSM messaging feature. This feature is similar to e-mail. You’ll learn basic functions such as: sending a message and creating messaging groups.
- Calendaring in SSM
Description: In this module, you will learn how to use the SSM calendar feature. With this feature, you can add events to your SSM calendar.
- Creating Student Documents
Description: In this module, you will learn how to create and edit the following documents: Referral, Assessment Plan, Learning Environment Screening, Eligibility Determination, and Individualized Education Program (IEP).
- Printing in SSM
Description: In this module, you will learn how to print student documents, and how to print the Explanation of Procedural Safeguards.
- Exam
Description: This quick self-examination will test your SSM knowledge based on content from the six modules.
